How long does a new roof take?

Typical stages of a re-roof and what can make the job take longer.

The stages

Scaffolding goes up, the old covering is stripped, timbers are checked and repaired, new underlay and battens are fixed, then tiles or slates, ridges, verges and leadwork are installed.

What affects the timescale

Roof size and complexity, the material (natural slate is slower to lay than concrete tiles), weather, and any timber repairs found once the old roof is off.
