Common flat roof problems and how they're fixed
Ponding, blistering, splits and damp – what they mean and the options for repair or replacement.
Ponding
Water sitting on the roof for more than a day or two speeds up wear. It usually points to poor falls or a sagging deck.
Blisters and splits
Common on older felt roofs. Small areas can be repaired, but widespread blistering means the covering is near the end of its life.
Replacement options
GRP fibreglass and EPDM rubber are popular, long-lasting systems. Torch-on felt remains a cost-effective choice for some roofs.
